Well after an impressive day of several 100km + triangles a few days ago the team has come down to Bright Victoria to do some training ready for the two AAA comps in mid to late January 2013.
We have received our team signage and boxing kangaroo logo ready to place on our gliders (see attached photo).

Canungra Cup Tasks 3/4 and wrapup
Task 3
Was another low and slow start with many bombouts, Che and Andrew went for an aggressive start position away from the start gaggle and bombed, requiring a refly. Gareth went back for the last start gate and as conditions improved, was first in goal winning the task in 2hrs 14mins, 22mins ahead of second. Che came in for fourth place with only six in goal.
Task 4
Started with a bang as more instability meant climbs to a week's high of 1800m at cloudbase straight off launch, the first half of the course was high and fast with many gliders in touch, however at the 20km mark a period of shade as a large cumulus decayed made conditions tricky with Gareth decking and Che and Andrew effecting a low save. Dave took a later start and was rewarded by coming into the gaggle high as conditions improved again, Andrew lead the team to goal with 4th, Dave 6th, Wes 7th and Che 11th.
Overall
Although we won 2 out of 4 tasks and placed high in the others, racing fast in inconsist conditions meant that all of the team had at least one low scoring day and suffered in the overall scores. (i'm personally offended by dropping from 3rd to 11th on the last task! ;-))

Canungra day 5 and 6 / 2nd Task
No task on day 5 due to wind.
Yesterday we had a task from Tambo to Boonah, via Boonah T. It took a while to get away and the day was extremely low, only about 1200m. A few people left Tambo early, but most pilots took a later start time and made the jump to the leaders on the first glide, from there Shane, Che, Andrew and Felipe were out in front, the four of us working together over the Beaudesert flats, until Andrew and myself took a bad line heading in to the Boonah foothills. We both decked it, whilst the other two not far on either side climbed out and made the task. I hear the day got a lot easier past where we landed. The day was won by Stephen Haase from USA who took the last start time. Shane was first in goal, KK Dave did really well too followed by Wesley Manzke, dave 2nd wes 3rd into goal but their early start time cost them 10 spots in points noticed only on download.
Gareth Carter is in a top spot for.a podium finish hopefully!
One more task tomorrow fingers crossed we get it as its needed;) The conditions this week has really been hard more of a lotto.....

Canungra Cup Day 4
A strong southerly change came through last night, bringing cooler conditions but unfortunately a lot of wind. No flying today and tomorrow looks like a maybe.

Canungra Cup
Leading upto the comp I came up to Canungra to assist Brian Webb on a XC course. Great flying with the students with out and returns and goal destinations achieved.
Some free flying days prior to the comp got me out to familiar terrain on the Great Dividing Range near Mt Lindsay.

Canungra Day 3: 50km elapsed time:
Forecast for increasing winds from the SW, launched early because there was
going to be a decreasing chance of getting off. Straight into a 3m/s to
1000m, where ground speed was 11-13km/hr. At that point the task was
stopped as launch opened and closed, so a leisurely ride out to the
landing ground and pack up in the shade.
Now for a swim!
Canungra Cup Day 2
A 50km straight run from Beechmont to Boonah T was called, with SW winds forecast to increase, making it a crosswind task. It was a tough day with most climbs only going to about 1200m, no clouds and lots of smoke and an increasing N wind. I pushed out early with Shane, KK, Fred and a couple of others. We had a good run to the Boonah foothills, where I got very low, but managed to get out with Fred. We took the Locked Gate Valley route which worked ok until the Northerly wind increased so much that we had little chance to push headwind to goal. Shane was low surfing along the middle of the valley, whilst Fred landed on top of a tiny hill that I ended up ridge soaring and then climbing out from, only to make a few hundred more metres along course. Most people made it out around the Mt Mohammed area.
